A Home Away From Home at Sunriver, Oregon.






A place just south of Bend where the smell of pine trees swarms your nose as soon as you open your car door. Where everyone waves and says hello as you ride by one another on bikes. The peaceful serenity of a walk by the Deschutes river on a summer night. A winter day full of sledding down bike trails covered in snow. A place where everyone can take a break from reality for awhile.


Sunriver, Oregon is a peaceful place to get back to nature. Where log cabins stay warm in the winter from toasty fireplaces. Sunriver is a place where my family spends quality time together in my grandparents’ cabin, beating each other in board games, sitting close together on the couch drinking our morning coffee, taking our dogs for long walks, going on bike rides to the Sunriver store to buy more milk, and spending the day at SHARC, the local water park.


Sunriver is located in Deschutes County, about 56 miles south of Bend. Families of any size can find just the right place to rent, whether a cabin, house, or in the Lodge at the Sunriver Resort. The SHARC, open to guests and others with passes, has two water slides with a lazy river and a pool that is outside, along with one that is under cover for the winter.


The winters are where a lot of tourists spend their days skiing at Bachelor which is only 30 minutes away. Snow can last in Sunriver from around Oct to April. When the ground is covered with snow I know my family always takes the advantage of snowball fights and sledding through the bike trails. Ice skating and drinking hot chocolate in The Village where there is an outside mall and places to eat.


The Village is used mostly in the spring and summertime. A variety of shopping stores and the famous Goodies ice cream shop opens up as well full of everyone's favorite ice cream flavors. Through the end of April to end of Sept is where everyone including my family gets out their bikes to ride all around Sunriver.


Floating down the Deschutes River is something that my family loves to do. There is a specific place to get in the river and to get out. Floating down the river in inner tubes is not the only thing that will get you down the river. People kayak, canoe, and paddleboard down the Deschutes as well. There are places to rent this type of equipment in Sunriver which makes it nice if you do not own any.


Golf is also another huge amenity for staying at Sunriver in the spring and summertime. My family always brought their golf clubs and would spend either the morning or evenings putting away. Golf makes the vibe of Sunriver even more peaceful.


Pre-Covid there used to be a variety of festivals and concerts in an area called The Backyard right by The Lodge. I remember going to festivals when I was younger with my grandparents walking through the big grassy fields and listening to live music. The TV show American Idol even had their auditions at the Sunriver Lodge in the 2019-20 season.


No matter the weather, Sunriver is the place to be. It is not only a place to spend time with family but a time to spend time with yourself as well. I always seem to finish my book whenever I am in Sunriver because of how at peace my mind always gets. There is just something about that fresh pine air that never fails.

LBCC Volleyball Team 2020-21 The Linn-Benton volleyball team is craving some healthy competition and they are hopeful to soon start supporting and competing with their teammates on the court instead of virtually. LBCC Men's and Women's Basketball Teams Are Finding Ways To Keep Things Rolling Even With Covid

The Linn-Benton men’s and women’s basketbal l teams and coaches have been itching to get back on the court due to Covid limitations. The Northwest Athletic Conference has created a phased approach that breaks down the amount of practicing, workouts, and competition the players are allowed to do to make sure they are taking proper health precautions. The coaches have also put players in their own pods to eliminate contact with each other. In a normal year or regular season, the teams would have started open gyms by Sept. 28. However, due to Linn County being in the high/extreme risk category for covid, that did not happen. Since Linn County is in the high/extreme category the teams are restricted in the amount of time they can practice and strength train. The teams cannot practice outside their basketball/weight training class. This means that they are only practicing three hours total a week and only have one and a half hours of weight training a week. As long as Linn County stays in

  J ayme Frazier has been the volleyball coach at Linn-Benton for 27 years. Sports have always been a part of Frazier’s life and she continues to show her love for them through coaching. Frazier played sports all through high school and college and went from coaching basketball to coaching volleyball over the years as well.
